Hi, I’m Toby... the founder of Gentle Beginnings.

I created Gentle Beginnings because I saw how many expectant mothers were entering birth feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and unsure of what to expect.

In a world filled with conflicting advice and fear-based stories, it can be difficult to know what to trust, or how to prepare in a way that truly supports both mother and baby.

Through my work, I focus on something that is often overlooked in traditional childbirth preparation: the powerful connection between the mind, the nervous system, and birth outcomes.

Gentle Beginnings combines evidence-based childbirth education with practical tools rooted in neuroscience, mindfulness, and brain training.

By understanding how the brain processes stress, pain, and uncertainty, mothers can learn how to calm their nervous system, build resilience, and approach birth with greater confidence and clarity.

But preparation isn’t just mental.

Inside Gentle Beginnings, I guide mothers through four key areas of preparation:

Mental Preparation. Physiology of Birth. Advocacy. Postpartum Preparation

Because each piece plays a role in shaping your experience.

My goal is not to promise a “perfect” birth.

In fact, research shows that a positive birth experience isn’t about the outcome or mode of birth…  it’s about how involved, informed, and supported a mother feels throughout the process.

When a mother feels like an active participant in her birth,  in the decisions, the process, and the experience, she is far more likely to walk away feeling empowered, even if things don’t go exactly as planned. This is what we focus on inside Gentle Beginnings.

Through my work, I help women prepare mentally, emotionally, and physically so they can approach pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum transition with greater calm, strength, and trust in their bodies. Because when a mother understands what her body is doing, and feels supported in the process,  birth can become not only manageable, but deeply empowering.
